Create and Burn a Promotional DVD/VCD

While PowerProducer makes the whole authoring process smooth and simple, in some instances you may really only be interested in transferring video directly on to DVD using the fastest method possible. With Right-to-Disc you can.

Right-to-Disc is designed to burn your video contents to a DVD in real-time, without placing large video files on to your hard drive first. Thus, you will not only save time with Right-to-Disc recording you will also save valuable hard disk space too.

In this tutorial, we will give you step-by-step instructions on how you can quickly and easily make DVD movies with Right-to-Disc recording.

Using Right-to-Disc: PowerProducer 2 versus PowerProducer 2 Gold

Right-to-Disc is only available with PowerProducer 2 and Gold versions of the software. While, PowerProducer 2 supports recording from digital video (DV) cameras, PowerProducer 2 Gold also supports recording from TV tuner cards, VCRs and web cameras.


What you need

• DV Camcorder and a recorded DV Tape (PowerProducer 2)
• TV tuner card, VCR, or webcam and correct cables (PowerProducer 2 Gold)
• IEEE1394 FireWire card installed on your PC (For DV Tape tranfers). Click to learn more.
• DVD recordable drive and an editable DVD or blank DVD recordable disc.

The minimum CPU requirement is Pentium 4 1.8 GHz, Pentium M 1.6 GHz, or Athlon 1.7 GHz or higher. To achieve the best result, it is recommended for you to use DDR-RAM memory.


Step by Step guide on how to use the Right-to-Disc™ feature

Step 1: Connect Your Video Source to the PC

Before you can start burning your video contents, please make sure your video source is properly connected to your computer. Recording TV or VCR content will require connection to a TV capture card.

Once you have properly connected your video source, you can then launch PowerProducer. If you are running Windows XP or 2000, the system will prompt you with a program selection box. Simply click on PowerProducer to launch the program.

...to a computer via a capture card. Audio also needs to be connected in a similar fashion.

Step 2: Select Right-to-Disc

In the PowerProducer main menu, click on the Right-to-Disc icon to begin.

 

Step 3: Choose Recording Device

Click on image to enlargeThe program will ask you to select a recording device and the recording speed you wish to use. Please note that Right-to-Disc recording is only suitable for DVD recordable drives.
Note: It is recommended that you select 1x speed to obtain the best burning stability and quality.

Step 4: Insert Blank or Editable DVD Recordable Disc

PowerProducer will ask you to insert your DVD recordable disk into the DVD recording device you have chosen. Then the program will automatically analyze the disc you have inserted and see if it's suitable for your selected device. Click Next to continue.

 

Step 5: Specify Recording Options

In the Recording Menu, there are many other features you can select to make your DVD appear exactly how you want. You can change the title of your DVD, create movie menus, select your video quality, and more.

DV Tape Length

Select the duration of your DV tape (this will be blank for other video source devices)

Menu Heading

Specify a name for your DVD Movie

Menu Layout

You can use a menu style you have used before by opening it from the "favorite" file, or by clicking on the menu icon to create a new menu style before burning.

Select Location

Set the correct TV format (NTSC or PAL) by selecting the location where you want to play your disc.

Video Quality

Select the quality of your video: High, Standard or Long Play

Disc Volume Label

Name your DVD by creating a disc volume label

Defragment Disc
Free up used disc space and improve playback performance. This option is only suitable for Editable DVDs.
PowerDVD Auto-Play™
By selecting PowerDVD™ Auto-Play, your produced DVD can be played on any DVD drive without the need for a DVD playback software to be installed.

 

Step 6: Start Recording

To start recording your content, simply click on the [REC] button on the bottom and PowerProducer will start writing video to your DVD.
