Super Video Quality with Advanced Compression

Research shows the MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-4 SP formats achieve substantially superior video quality over previous compression standards even at bit rates 50% lower than other compression techniques. CyberLink PowerEncoder MPEG-4 AVC edition exemplifies by delivering exception video quality at low bit rates.

There is no single element that delivers this outcome; instead, small improvements to the compression technology contribute to a significantly better results. One hour of D1 uncompressed video can be as large as 88 GB stored on a hard disk, but after converting to MPEG-4 AVC, the file size can be reduced to an amazing 879 MB—less than 1% of its original size. Converting to MPEG-4 SP will achieve even greater results with the file size reduced to 338 MB.

The Next Generation of Video Has Arrived

The MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) and MPEG-4 SP standards exceed the performance and results of previous video standards with a range of advanced compression technologies:

  • intra-frame prediction based on 4x4 macroblocks
  • motion compensation with I, B, and P frames
  • transform coding
  • in-loop deblocking filtering
  • entropy coding
  • interlace coding tools

These features ensure PowerEncoder MPEG-4 AVC can achieve extremely high-quality results using low bit rates while generating small file sizes with the approximate conversion rate at an incredibly miniscule 25% of the original DVD video file (MPEG-2 format). Below is a comparison between DVD quality (MPEG-2) and MPEG-4 AVC, but with MPEG-2 at a higher bitrate but at twice the file size!

User Interface

PowerEncoder MPEG-4 AVC provides easy navigation using two function tabs via a single main screen:

  • Convert Files: features a preview window and panes for A/V information, previously converted files, and the list of files waiting to be converted
  • DV Capture: features a preview window and panes for capture options, captured files and A/V information

Video Profiles

Conversion or capturing can be performed using CyberLink’s predefined video profile or by using customized profile settings. The default video profile allows for modifying:

  • file format
  • level of compression
  • TV video format
  • encoding quality

You can customize your own video profile and deal with video compression issues via the Profile Setup button including:

  • video resolution
  • entropy coding
  • GOP structure
  • rate control
  • frame rate
  • deblocking
  • rate distortion
  • optimization
  • audio compression rate

Note: Customized profiles may be edited or deleted.
